Howdy, pals! It’s been a hot minute since I’ve taken the time to sit down and hammer out a blog, so what better time than the holiday season to share a few thoughts?!
The past few months have flown by to say the least, how is Christmas less than two weeks away? Work on the ranch has been busy… some things never change. We’ve been finishing up some fall projects, feeding cattle, and hauling hay preparing for winter to really set in. We were hit with our first snowstorm about two weeks ago; rain, snow, more rain, snow, WIND, and then no electricity. Almost all the snow has melted as of today, but my goodness we have been experiencing some chilly temperatures!
With Christmas fast approaching, we have entered the season of materialistic madness. I have seen some pretty fantastic sales over the past weeks, but I challenge you all to take a step back and focus on what really matters in our lives; moments, experiences, relationships, and time spent with loved ones.
I’ll be the first to admit that there was a time when I bought into all the consumerism and felt the need to buy an ungodly amount of stuff; stuff that was extremely insignificant. Sure, its neat to give all these gifts, and don’t get me wrong, these gifts are thoughtful gestures, but what about the things we can give each other that don’t include a price tag? These things may include time spent together, a shared meal, or a memorable experience. When I think back on my childhood, I don’t remember the gifts, I remember the time spent with family and friends during the holidays. Even now, it’s the special moments spent with those I love that leave a lasting impact on my life.
We’ve become a society where tangible items have completely consumed our lives. Instead of taking the time to spend moments with the ones we care about, we go out and buy these tangible items that seem nifty to start with, but quickly lose their shine and appeal.
If we spend our time wisely with those we love, we refill our cup, we become recharged. When we do this, we create positive momentum which in turn increases our potential. With that being said, don’t wait till 2020 to chase whatever it is you have on your radar. I believe to achieve results in our lives we need to take massive action now to create better potential going forward!
I hope you all have a blessed Christmas filled with laughs, loved ones, and a few too many sweets 😊
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward me. Luke 2:14
